The program for Staff and Organizational Development serves the Division of Student Affairs at Texas A&M University.
Our mission is to develop those who develop students. We advocate quality organizational and staff development as a means of linking student affairs to student learning.
Several principles serve as our foundation:
- Application of theory to practice. A legitimate knowledge base grounded in research drives the student affairs profession.
- Connection to the educational mission. The work of student affairs staff enhances the educational experience of Texas A&M students and promotes learning.
- Commitment to professional standards. Our efforts embrace several hallmarks of the student affairs profession-collegial sharing, a holistic approach to student development, respect for the uniqueness of each individual, and the belief that a supportive campus community helps students learn.
- Alignment with the Division and the institution. We focus our efforts on contributing to the goals and values of Texas A&M University and the Division of Student Affairs.
Most importantly, we seek to create a common understanding of what student affairs practitioners do, define how we contribute to the uniqueness of the Texas A&M Aggie spirit, create a collective voice around the values of our profession, and contribute to a culture of excellence.
